Descente Aux Enfers by Marcel Jouhandeau
Illustrated with four original color lithographs by Georges Braque
Signed by Braque and Jouhandeau

"Once an object has been incorporated in a picture it accepts a new destiny." --Braque

"Art is made to disturb. Science reassures." --Braque

(BRAQUE). Jouhandeau, Marcel. Descente Aux Enfers. Paris: Nouveau Cercle Parisien du Livre, 1961. Loose gatherings (as issued) in folder and chemise; housed in slipcase. 13x11 inches, 98 pages. Light rubbing to slipcase, otherwise fine. $4600.

Limited edition, one of only 170 copies signed by both Braque and Jouhandeau, illustrated with four original hors-texte color lithographs by Braque, one of the most important revolutionaries of twentieth-century art and one of the founders (along with Picasso) of cubism. A beautiful book, illustrating Braque's famous fascination with metaphorical interpretations of birds in flight.
